V.O.W.

Since September 5, 2012 all of your poetry needs were met for all consumers, and artist of all kinds. THIS WAS RECREATED FOR YOU!! For only $5 and FREE FOOD, why would you stay in the house on hump day when you could be spiritually uplifted? Its a win, win situation for everyone.
MidTown Arts and Coffee Lounge opened the creative doors for a number of poets in Indianapolis. Many active poets who were just starting out in poetry, or just felt the need to share their intimate moments with a flexible crowd all began here. It all started with Allen Imagery's "Spoken SoulFood Sunday" shows. How appropriate to dine in a lyrical cafe` after church service. The love that was created at MidTown has carried that same essence for Amber Harper's vision.
Amber Michelle Harper is one young entrepreneur with a dozen of talents to say the least. To be apart of something that so powerful today, took a lot of waiting, meditating and working. "I had to wait for opportunities to arrive and I realized in order for my dreams to come true, I had to first reevaluate my goals thus creating a new found respect for my talents and my true passions. I never imagined that I would be responsible for providing a plhace for artist to showcase and express themselves freely. This opportunity is truly bigger than me."
The sentiment of MidTown being home, is the most truest statement ever. I personally have never felt as confident to share my inner thoughts with anyone, let alone on stage with a pool of anticipating ears. But MidTown just has that positive vibe to truly be you on stage. And the truth of the matter is there will be a diverse crowd every time an artist gets on stage, no matter how frequently they share a piece. Luckily, after at least five minutes, stage fright is over and done for the evening. BUT FOR THE HOST.......
Tony Styxx. One who must remain poise, professional, and prompt, EVEN HE has to let loose and just chill with the family of V.O.W. Many people who gather the courage to share a poem or song are actually doing so for the first time in their life, and Tony wastes no time ensuring comfortabilitly, for them. "This opportunity was random to say the least. I went to school with Amber and learned a little bit about her, and when she approached me with this business, I knew she was serious. I appreciate hosting and working with everyone involved with V.O.W.s' success." Tony likes to compare the open mic event to church. Throughout the night he will announce the next speaker to the pulpit, shouting an Amen or two, and informing the saints, "the fellowship hall is open and the meal is prepared." He definitely tries to keep the atmosphere comfortable.
Since Vibes On Wednesdays' opening night, they have created huge feature events that allow an appropriate amount of time for the feature to share their poetry. I like to think of the event as a learning session. New poets have the opportunity to learn new ways of creative expression AND performance. Though there is no set standard to sharing poetry, but watching the different techniques unfold on stage is the best part. Poets like JanuarieYork, Taalam Acey, and JusWill III were the features this quarter.

MidTown Arts and Coffee Lounge has and will always be a venue for self expression and growth. I appreciate the wonderful people who choose this venue as an outlet for artist of all kinds. I'm always happy for people that take hold of their goals and walk through their vision. It's very important to never lose sight of goals. "Growing from a dreamer, to a dream chaser, to now a dream catcher, and this is only one a small portion of the reality to come."

And as always,
EVERY WEDNESDAY
RAIN, SLEET, OR SNOW,
AT 8:30
VIBES ON WEDNESDAYS
WILL. BE. POPPING.

The Beginning of Many

This past Friday night, at the White Rabbit, many artist graced the stage with their personality, rhymes and style with a crowd full of  inebriated music lovers. But before lyrical blessings could canvas the airwaves, the burlesque dancers set the tone of the evening with a sexy rump shaking introduction. After an intriguing entrance, Didda Joe began the show with his personal experiences with love and relationships.
Throughout the evening, PeteyBoy and John Stamps rocked the stage just before Pope Adrian Bless, shared his energetic personality with the audience. Sirius Blvck and Grey Granite kept the party alive with their relaxed, yet fun performances.

Pope's set included songs from Angel Music II "Architect II", "Rosebud", and "Empires", plus "Andretti" and "American Spirits", from The Prayer Bead Memoirs EP. Adrian was more excited than anything to share his music with the people of Fountain Square last Friday night. "Performing for new crowds can bother anyone especially if its been a while touching a stage. But I had fun, and the reassurance of knowing I can still do it is truly a peaceful feeling."

The Rocket Doll Revue and Ghost Town put together a show that catered to all the different kinds of talent Indy has but rarely gets recognized for having, all in one night. As an audience member, I appreciated the show.
